Project Description
Inspired by Akira Tachibana’s book “The Japanese,” this project visually represents Japan’s position within the World Values Survey. For example, the two axes of the Inglehart–Welzel cultural map:
- “Traditional” vs. “Secular”
- “Survival” vs. “Self-expression”
The officially published Inglehart–Welzel map was only available as a hand-drawn illustration, so I rebuilt it as a data-driven, time-series visualization and considered Japan’s position within it.

Project Role
Art direction, design, front-end coding, and data processing — all handled personally.
